Fabrication and Installation for Aggregate and Cement Plants

The Role of Fabrication and Installation in Cement and Aggregate Plants

Cement and aggregate plants rely on precision fabrication and seamless installation to keep their operations running efficiently. Whether it’s for a scheduled plant shutdown for repairs or building a new facility, the accuracy of fabrication and timeliness of installation are critical for safety, productivity, and minimizing downtime.

Fabrication: Building Critical Components

Fabrication in these industries involves producing highly specialized equipment and structural elements that facilitate plant operations. From massive kilns to intricate conveyor systems, the process demands exacting attention to detail.

Structural Steel Framework

The backbone of the plant, supporting everything from heavy equipment to conveyor systems. Goodhart Sons utilizes CNC machines, laser cutters, and advanced welding techniques to fabricate beams, columns, and supports that meet precise specifications.

Conveyor and Conveyor Upgrades

Conveyors play a crucial role in transporting materials between quarries, storage, and processing areas. Goodhart Sons fabricates a wide range of conveyors—belt, chain, and screw types—designed for durability and efficiency in tough conditions.

Batching and Mixing Units

For aggregate plants, accurate batching units ensure precise material mixes, while cement plants require blending systems for raw materials. Goodhart Sons fabricates components for reinforced mixers, silos, and weighing systems.

Kiln Components  (Cement Plants)

Rotary kilns, used to produce cement clinker, are constructed from heat-resistant steel and lined with refractory materials. Goodhart Sons has decades of experience in fabricating kiln components to specified designs.

Dust Collection and Pollution Control Systems

The EPA regulates air pollution control systems, which affect almost all industries, including paper mills, aggregate and cement, and power generation. Goodhart Sons has extensive expertise in fabricating components like baghouses, filters, fans, and ducts, produced using corrosion-resistant materials and designed for high-volume air handling.

Large Diameter and Heavy Plate Ductwork

Goodhart Sons’ fabrication capabilities include industrial-scale ductwork essential for dust and fume collection systems. These components, built for long-lasting durability, handle the significant demands of cement and aggregate plant environments.

Storage Silos, Bins and Hoppers

These components are designed to store and feed materials into processing equipment at controlled flow rates. Materials commonly used for silos, as well as bin and hopper fabrication include stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, or specialized alloys. The choice depends on factors such as stored material, environmental conditions, and regulatory compliance.

Installation: Bringing Fabricated and OEM Equipment to Life

Once the components are fabricated, the installation phase ensures everything is precisely positioned for operation. Goodhart Sons’ crews are MSHA-certified for above ground (part 46) and are licensed in most states, ensuring compliance and safety on every project.

Silo and Hopper Installation

Fabricated in sections, these structures are carefully mounted using cranes and secured on foundations, with structural alignments checked for stability and load capacity.

Conveyor Installation

Conveyor systems are installed to transport materials. They require proper alignment and support structures like trusses or gantries and avoid wear on belts and pulleys.

Dust Collector and Emission Control Systems

Dust control systems, such as baghouses or electrostatic precipitators, are installed to manage dust generated during cement production and aggregate crushing.

For nearly 90 years, Goodhart Sons has supported the cement and aggregate industries with complex steel fabrications and expert installations. Our modern fabrication facility and industry-certified teams ensure every project is completed on time and to the highest quality standards, whether for new plant construction or critical shutdown repairs.
