What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?

In January, a group of students from Pequea Valley School District walked through our doors with cameras, questions, and a challenge:

Find out what’s so cool about manufacturing.

As part of the regional “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” student video contest, they spent time inside our facility getting a firsthand look at what modern manufacturing actually looks like today. Not from a textbook. Not from a screen. Right here on the shop floor.

Getting the opportunity to watch students experience it for the first time reminds us why this industry matters.

Manufacturing is easy to misunderstand from the outside. A lot of people still picture dark factories and repetitive work. What these students saw instead was problem-solving, teamwork, technology, precision, and people who genuinely care about what they build.

They saw welders who know their craft inside and out. They saw projects moving from raw material to finished product. They saw communication between departments, attention to detail, and the kind of work that only happens when experienced hands and modern equipment work together.

Most importantly, they saw opportunity.

That is what makes programs like this important.

The annual awards event this week, brought together student teams from school districts across our region, each telling a different story about manufacturing in their communities. Seeing those stories on the big screen was a reminder that the future of this industry is already taking shape in local classrooms.

We were especially proud to see the students from Pequea Valley recognized with the Producer Award for their work.

We believe manufacturing is more than making parts or fabricating steel. It is building careers, supporting families, and creating something tangible that lasts. Industries change. Technology changes. But the value of skilled people doing meaningful work has not changed.

That is something worth showing the next generation.

We appreciate the students, teachers, and organizers who make this program possible every year, and we are grateful we had the chance to be part of it.
